This week, let’s imbue our haibun with mono no aware. Write on any topic that you like (although bonus points to any choosing one related to May) as long as your haibun embodies that wistful sadness marking the beauty of transience.
When the month of April ended, the weather was still pleasant surprisingly and we were feeling the freshness of the spring. Everywhere there were treasure troves of gem like beautiful colored flowers gleaming in the sunlight that was neither hot nor scorching.
But the arrival of May coincided with the dreaded heatwave which laid waste to all those delicate spring blooms and only the hardy ones survived this intense heat.
With sorrow I see
Wilted flower heads down
Their color faded
Summer robs them by
Stealing their glory, glow
Spring gone too soon
